Mellem is a professionally cheerful blend of designers and architects.
Industrial Designer Philippe Schlesser and Architect Jean-Paul Carvalho established a design studio that creates intuitive connections between people and environments with a goal to improve life, make people happy and create business success. The word ‘mellem’ derives from Denmark, where Schlesser studied design and translates to ‘between’.
At mellem, we live the passion for design on a daily basis and create delightful experiences for the senses.

Philippe’s diverse background includes experience in industrial design, culinary arts and outdoor leadership. His extensive travels have taken him through over eighty countries, including many developing countries. His travel experiences have strongly influenced his vision of design, emphasizing the need for sustainability, user-centered approaches, and ethnographic research.
He is also excited about the humanitarian potential of incorporating design into capacity and resource building in developing countries. As a direct result, we launched the social design organization DesignAid.
Philippe believes that the interpersonal, educational, communication and social aspects of design are equally important to the technical side of this exciting field: he is a dynamic networker, promoter, educator, and event organizer in the design industry.
Jean-Paul has a background in architecture and started his own architecture office in 2005. He contributes a very human approach to design. His analytical observations reflect in all his work, integrating ideal ergonomics for the individual using the product or space.
His architecture firm Carvalho Architects works in close collaboration with mellem for a holistic approach to improve life with design experiences.
